org.cispec.retention

recommended: any CI whose records are subject to a formal retention schedule

org.cispec.retention records the retention schedule governing how long records about a Change Item must be kept. The value points to the applicable schedule; it does not contain the schedule itself.

Retention obligations vary by domain and jurisdiction: HIPAA mandates medical record retention minimums, NARA records disposition authorities govern federal agency records, SEC rules govern financial records, DoD records management policies govern military programme records, FDA 21 CFR Part 11 governs pharmaceutical manufacturing records. A physical pharmaceutical batch record, a weapon system maintenance log, and a patient chart all carry retention obligations independent of whether they are stored digitally or physically.
